WATER CONSERVATION

Quick and easy tips for conserving water in your home

  • Dispense water in the toilet.  Put large, weighted plastic containers in the tank.

  • Check for toilet leaks and fix one if you have one.

  • Shorten your shower.

  • Don't leave the water running.

  • Run the dishwasher only when fully loaded; don't rinse dishes, scrape them.

  • Use low-flow fixtures such as faucet aerators and low-flow showerheads.

  • Replace your conventional washer with an efficient horizontal-axis model.

Quick and easy tips for conserving water outside your home

  • Fix irrigation system leaks (check for excess water in gutters or mud puddles).

  • Don't over-water.  Water when the grass or plants show signs of needing it.

  • Check the weather forecasts so you don't water the lawn when it's going to rain.

  • Avoid watering on windy days.

  • Water in the cool of the day to avoid excess evaporation (early or late).

  • Set a timer when using sprinklers (you can lose over 600 gallons in a few hours).

  • When washing the car, use a bucket for soapy water and a hose only for rinsing.

  • Use a rake and broom to clean up sidewalks, not the hose.
